FAQ
Answering your questions
What is Waste Alchemists?
Waste Alchemists is an online platform and community dedicated to creators who transform waste materials into beautiful, functional, and innovative products. We are a marketplace, a storytelling hub, and an event space, all focused on promoting the circular economy through creativity.
What does "Alchemist" mean in this context?
An Alchemist, to us, is anyone who performs “magic” by turning base materials (waste) into something of greater value (new products). Our makers are the modern-day alchemists, combining skill, vision, and sustainability.
Why should I buy upcycled or recycled products?
Every purchase supports a maker directly, champions sustainable practices, and diverts materials from landfills. You’re not just buying a product; you’re buying a story of transformation and voting for a more creative, circular economy.
How do I know the quality is good?
Every maker and product on our platform is curated. We focus on craftsmanship, design, and integrity. Product listings include detailed descriptions, materials used, and maker stories. You can also read reviews from other customers.
Who owns Waste Alchemists?
Waste Alchemists is an initiative started by Samuel as a story sharing initiative. Daniel joined to build the platform from which now the initiative is ran through Samwhere Productions.
How is Waste Alchemists different from other marketplaces?
Our sole focus is the to show the beauty behind creating epic products from solely waste based products. We are not a general craft site. We combine commerce with deep storytelling, community building, and event promotion specifically for the waste-to-value movement. We’re a mission-driven platform first.
What is your definition of "waste material"?
We define it broadly as any material that has completed its intended first life and is destined for landfill, incineration, or is a by-product of an industrial process. This includes post-consumer waste (like bottles, textiles) and post-industrial waste (like factory off-cuts, pallets).
Do you verify the sustainability claims of makers?
We require makers to be transparent and specific about their material sources in their applications and product listings. While we check applications thoroughly, we operate on a trust-first model within our community and encourage direct dialogue between makers and customers.
How are you funded/sustained as a platform?
We are sustained through commissions from sales, partnerships with aligned brands, and grants focused on circular economy innovation. Our goal is to build a self-sustaining ecosystem that supports our makers that seek to make a change.
Can I partner with you or sponsor an event?
We’re always open to collaborations with organizations, brands, and institutions that share our vision for a creative circular future. Please contact us through our contact page to discuss possibilities.
How can I stay updated without buying something?
Follow us on Social Media, subscribe to our newsletter for maker stories and new product drops, or simply browse our free content! Our blog and stories are there to inspire everyone.
How do I become a seller on Waste Alchemists?
We have an open but curated application process to ensure alignment with our mission. You can find out all you need to know on our services page. We look for originality, craftsmanship, and a genuine commitment to using waste as a primary material.
Why would I join Waste Alchemists?
We offer so much more than just showing your products. We showcase your story, connect you to other makers and partners and just simply have fun together while doing so. We aim to create the place for joint growth.
What kind of products/makers are you looking for?
We seek creators across all categories like home decor, fashion, furniture, art, jewelry, accessories, whose work is primarily made from post-consumer or post-industrial waste materials. We value strong design, a compelling story, and a professional approach.
How does the financial picture work?
We operate on a commission-based model. This decreases risk for you as a maker. We take a small percentage of each sale to support our platform, marketing, and community initiatives. There are no upfront listing fees. Detailed fee structure is provided upon application approval.
How do you help me sell and tell my story?
Beyond the marketplace, we actively feature makers through our editorial “Alchemist Stories,” social media highlights, and newsletter spotlights. We believe your story is as important as your product in building a connection with customers.
Can I promote my workshops or events?
Yes! We have a dedicated “Events” section where you can list in-person or online workshops, pop-up markets, or exhibitions. It’s a great way to engage the community directly. Feel like sharing an event? Contact us here!
