Studio Wae

From carpet tile & concrete waste to modular flooring & paving

Studio Wae transforms discarded carpet tiles and concrete waste into modular rugs, floorings, wall tiles, and climate-adaptive paving systems. Their products look high-end and contemporary, but behind every piece lies a simple idea: waste deserves a second life, and good design can make that happen in ways that are beautiful, durable, and circular.

About the alchemists

Studio Wae was founded by Tynke, a passionate circular designer with the rare combination of vision, warmth, and network-building superpowers. From the moment you walk into their workspace, the team’s energy feels welcoming, collaborative, and optimistic. Even their office reflects who they are: a circular “museum” filled with creations from fellow waste alchemists they support and partner with. Studio Wae is more than a company, it’s a circular community.

About the waste

Studio Wae works with two overlooked waste streams: 1) Carpet tiles: production leftovers discarded due to cutting or weaving imperfections. These tiles are perfectly functional but normally end up being burned or downcycled. 2) Concrete / pavement waste: slabs and debris from railways and demolished buildings. Traditionally, this material is crushed and hidden under asphalt, effectively removing it from circulation. Studio Wae intercepts both streams and keeps them above ground, in use, in sight, and in the loop.

About the process

For carpet tiles, the team collects finished tiles rejected during production and transforms them through cutting, sorting, reshaping, and assembling. The approach stays modular, allowing infinite combinations while avoiding new materials. For pavement waste, the concrete is crushed, purified, and used to press new tiles with a 76% circular content. Crucially, at the end of their life these tiles can be fully reused, closing the loop without degradation.

About their creations

From carpet tiles come three main creations: modular rugs, wall tiles, and floorings. The rugs act like a playful design system, you assemble shapes, colours, and geometries to make your own custom piece. From concrete waste come several outdoor solutions, including their most innovative product: a climate-adaptive parking tile that buffers water, creates pockets for biodiversity, and can be arranged like a puzzle to make space for greenery rather than covering the ground completely. Every product follows the same philosophy: modular, circular, and designed to stay in use.

Feels like a circular museum

Walk into their office in Bunnik and it feels like you entered a modern museum of circular design. Rugs made from waste, concrete tiles with stories, expositions of circular furniture from other makers. Every corner is a reminder that the circular economy is already alive when people collaborate.
