Mooza

From leftover leather scraps to handmade accessories

Mooza transforms small leftover pieces of leather and cow skin into handmade keychains, armbands, garlands and other accessories. The kind of scraps that usually disappear in a drawer or end up in the bin? Imke turns them into colourful, character-filled pieces you could use every day

About the alchemist

Imke, the maker behind Mooza, did not start with a grand plan. After a burnout during her work as a psychiatric nurse, she needed something that brought her out of her head and back into her hands. In a closet she rediscovered leftover leather from a workshop she once followed, and slowly began crafting armbands. What started as recovery became a small circular brand as friends and family began asking for her creations. The name Mooza? Inspired by a stuffed moose she once received, long before she knew she would actually start a company.

About the waste

Mooza works specifically with small leather and cow skin cut-offs that are too irregular or too tiny for mainstream production. These pieces are often stored away in bags or simply discarded because they are not efficient for large-scale use. Imke selects her materials based on colour, texture and thickness, sometimes choosing popular tones like black, other times intentionally picking unusual shades. Even the length of cow hair matters depending on the product. Nothing is standard. The material leads the direction.

About the process

Every piece starts with sorting and matching material to possibility. Because the scraps are small, design decisions are made based on what is available, not on fixed templates. Imke cuts, assembles and finishes everything by hand in her workshop, working carefully around shapes, textures and natural imperfections. The scale stays intentionally small. No mass production, no bulk runs. Just slow making with what already exists.

About her creations

Mooza creates keychains in different shapes and sizes, armbands, garlands and seasonal decorations. Her zebra-pattern cow skin keychain is a favourite because it sparks conversations wherever she goes. The products are simple, practical and meant to be used daily. They prove that even the smallest leather remnants can become something meaningful instead of something forgotten.

The Compliment that Meant Everything

One of Imke’s most meaningful moments came from her grandfather. He proudly bought her keychains and armbands and would look at them with honest surprise, saying, “It’s actually nice that one can make something like this from a piece of waste.” No big awards. No viral campaign. Just quiet recognition from someone who truly saw the value. And sometimes that is exactly what makes a circular journey feel worthwhile.
