Eversom

From rejected fire hoses to durable bags and design

Eversom transforms discarded fire hoses into awesome long-lasting designs. Every creation might hold countless of life-saving stories from its past! And this is not all, the material itself has quite some superpowers that make it perfect for new uses.

About the alchemists

Meet Ilse and her team from Eversom. The story began in a former school building, where neighbours regularly brought Ilse leftover materials because she created stage designs from scrap. One day she was handed a pile of rejected fire hoses and had absolutely no idea what to do with them. It was only two years later, that she experimented with this material and loved it! Ilse’s motivation has grown ever since: stubborn curiosity, a love for experimenting, and a desire to help people see waste differently.

About the waste

Fire hoses are rejected the moment they show the slightest abrasion. And for good reason: lives depend on them. But this also creates a paradox as the stronger and more durable its material the harder it is to recycle. These hoses don’t rot, don’t crack, don’t fade, don’t surrender to weather, UV, chemicals or pressure. This means, when wasted they just pile up or get burned. Eversom, however, uses these qualities as superpowers for their creations.

About the process

The process begins with collecting fire hoses from brigades and facilities, sometimes delivered, sometimes picked up during half-day trips that refill both stock and social connections. Back in the workshop, each hose is cut open into two strips, soaked to release years of trapped dirt, and washed one by one (every hose needs its own cycle). Once cleaned, the strips are rolled, sorted by colour and width, and stored. Only then Ilse and her team can turn them into new designs.

About their creations

Eversom creates lots of different products and its range grew entirely by people asking for “one more thing.” First a belt. Then a bracelet. Then a bag. Today the focus is shifting towards circular interior and exterior design like chairs, rugs, and wall dividers while always thinking in textures, patterns and architectural surfaces made from fire hoses.

It's all about curiosity and courage

Ilse’s work shows what waste alchemy really is: daring to try. As she laughs, “Half of the things I make start with someone asking, ‘Do you think this is possible?’ And I’m like: ‘Let’s find out.’”
