No Waste Army

From rejected vegetables and fruit to seasonal food boxes

No Waste Army rescues what supermarkets decline and turns it into long-lasting products that are delivered in a quarterly food box. Instead of letting good food go to waste because it looks “wrong,” they collect it, process it, and make it easy for people to use it in their everyday cooking.

About the alchemists

No Waste Army was founded in 2023 in Breda by Thibaud, Stijn, Frank, and Jacco. Stijn already had experience connecting farmers and consumers through Boerschappen, and together they decided to build something around this frustration. What drives them is creating a system where farmers are taken seriously and people feel part of something practical. On top of that, they started calling their community “strijders” (warriors against waste), and that mindset stuck.

About the waste

Every year, the Netherlands wastes around 2 billion kilos of food, and it starts right at the farm, where growers are left with fruit and vegetables they simply can’t sell to supermarkets. The reasons vary: from legislation and trade barriers to rejected harvests. Supermarkets are incredibly strict, only wanting to display the most picture-perfect produce on their shelves. Is the cucumber a little crooked? Is the pepper not quite the right colour? Is the pumpkin just a touch too small? It gets stamped as “unsuitable”, even though it tastes absolutely fine. That’s exactly the kind of madness the ‘warriors’ at No Waste Army are fighting every single day.

About the process

It starts at the farm. Produce that cannot be sold is collected before it gets wasted. No Waste Army first slows things down and looks at what can be made from what is available. Recipes are built around the rescued ingredients, not the other way around. The focus is on making the most out of what is there, extending shelf life, and keeping as much value as possible in the process. Along the way, their community joins in through rescue actions, pick-ups, and small hands-on moments that make the whole system feel tangible.

About their products

The result of all that work? The No Waste Army box. Four times a year, they put together a box with around 13 long-lasting products made from rescued vegetables and fruit. Think of it less as a fixed product and more as a reflection of what was saved that season. By subscribing, you are not just receiving food, you are directly connected to what would have otherwise been wasted and bringing it back into everyday delicious use.

Words are their weapons too!

No Waste Army doesn’t just fight food waste, they do it with style. Their communication is every bit as sharp as their mission, with a playful tone, bold imagery, and a real sense of community that pulls you right in. Every word, every visual, every page feels intentional and alive. They’ve built something that truly feels like a movement you want to be part of!
